UT AMSA is an undergraduate chapter of the national AMSA organization. Therefore, in order to participate in organization events, reap the rewards, and join the recognized pre-medical AMSA, potential members must also join the national branch.
All events are listed on the event calendar under the Calendar tab. Event links and signups usually become available at 7:30 am approximately one week before the event date.
General meetings are biweekly, held every other Wednesday from 6:30pm – 7:30pm at MEZ 1.306. Be sure to come out to grab some free food, chat with officers and other members, and to hear our esteemed speakers!
Active membership in AMSA is determined by a point system in which each point typically corresponds to a single hour of participation in one of the types of events: Volunteer, Social, Medical Resource, Fundraising, and Meeting. As a result, the time commitment necessary to be active can be roughly estimated using this chart.
However, the majority of our members are also involved in other organizations and/or clubs on campus and we understand how it may be difficult to be manage one’s obligations. Although we do require our members to be active and participate in events to obtain a minimum number of points (and therefore hours), we will also work with you to create an ideal plan for success. If you are worried about your membership status, please talk to an officer and we will do our best to ensure your enjoyment in and benefit from AMSA.
There are many options available. Firstly, please check out the Local Dues scholarship application, which can potentially cover an entire year’s dues. Otherwise, installment plans are available on a case-by-case basis. Please speak with or e-mail our Secretary officer to talk about the best course of action. We will do everything we can to help you!
