About AMSA
National AMSA
Founded in 1950, the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is the largest and one of the oldest independent, student-run organizations in the nation. AMSA was originally established in Washington D.C. as a physician-in-training organization. Its goals were to promote the the sciences of healthcare and medicine, and to foster community and leadership among US medical students. Today, AMSA encompasses a broad range of pre-medical students, medical students, interns, medical residents and practicing physicians all across the country.
Our motto is “It takes more than medical school to make a physician”. For more than half a century, AMSA has committed itself to improving medical education and promoting affordable healthcare delivery by involving its members, both premedical and medical, in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine. Global health equity, professional integrity, medical enrichment through diversity, and student development and well-being are all cornerstone aspirations that AMSA members try to achieve throughout their lives and pass on to others.

Here at the University of Texas
We know it’s not easy becoming a physician-the life of a pre-med can be stressful, demanding, and complicated. But it doesn’t have to be difficult. Here at AMSA UT, we offer the type of pre-medical community that empowers, connects, and ultimately prepares its members for a succesful medical careerwhile creating a memorable college experience.. Through AMSA UT, pre-medical students will receive the opportunity to engage in different volunteering and networking events and consequently strengthen their resumes and extracurricular portfolios. In addition, members will build lasting relationships with their peers and garner valuable insight into the health professions through our speaker series and physician guests. Scholarships are also available every semester to our members in order to aid in MCAT studying and preparation. They say that the first step is always the hardest in every journey–that’s why AMSA UT aims to assist its members in their pre-medical track and promote their success as future leaders and physicians. What starts here, truly changes the world.
